Are you looking for a chance to regain confidence and have a fulfilling intimate life? Medication can offer hope and symptom improvement for more control over your health. There are many, but two leading treatments, sildenafil (Viagra®) and tadalafil (Cialis®), could offer the results you have been looking for. Learn more here about how they work, what sets them apart and which medication might be better for ED in your unique situation.

What is sildenafil (Viagra®)?

, a generic version of, belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. It treats erectile dysfunction, 1 and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).2 For ED, it works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow, which can help achieve erection with sexual stimulation.3

Sildenafil is an oral medication that takes approximately 30 minutes to take effect after ingestion. The effects last around four hours on average.4 Commonly prescribed doses range from 20 mg to 100 mg, with 50 mg being utilized the most. Suggested use is as needed, with no more than one dose per day.5

What is tadalafil (Cialis®)?

, a generic version of, is also a PDE inhibitor used to treat ED, PE6 and PAH. For erectile dysfunction, oral medication increases blood flow to cause an erection with a sexual stimulus.7

The dosage depends on if tadalafil is being used as needed or daily as an ED maintenance treatment. As needed dosage is commonly 10 mg once per day as needed before sexual activity. Users can continue treatment as needed with 5 mg to 20 mg before sexual activity. On average, it takes around 30 to 45 minutes for tadalafil to take effect.8 However, it can take up to two hours in some cases.9 The effects can last up to 36 hours.10

For long-term treatment of ED, 2.5 mg per day is the common dosage, regardless of when sexual activity occurs. Maintenance on this regimen ranges from 2.5 mg to 5 mg daily.11

What are the differences between sildenafil and tadalafil?

Both sildenafil and tadalafil are PDE inhibitors with similar mechanisms of action, but there are some differences. The main difference between the two medications is the time to take effect and the duration of effect.

Sildenafil is more often recommended for spontaneous use. It takes about 30 minutes to take effect and lasts around five hours. While for some users, the effects can start as soon as 30 minutes. However, recommended advice is to allow tadalafil approximately two hours before sexual activity for best results. Tadalafil effects can last up to 36 hours after ingestion making it suited for long-term use.12

How effective are sildenafil and tadalafil for erectile dysfunction?

PDE inhibitors, like sildenafil and tadalafil, have a promising success rate. There have been reported success rates in studies of up to 70% when using PDE inhibitors for ED.13

What is Levitra used for?

Levitra (Vardenafil) 20mg is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men by increasing blood flow to the penis.

ED is a condition in which a man has trouble getting or keeping an erection long enough for his body to benefit from the help he needs to maintain an erection.

Levitra works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which enables a man to achieve and maintain an erection.

This side effect is not limited to Levitra. Manic episodes can be caused by a wide range of factors, including physical symptoms, medical conditions, and the physical abilities that are needed to have an erection.

If you are taking Levitra, tell your doctor if you are using any other medications, but those needs are not fully discussed with you.

In addition, notify your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including supplements.

Levitra can interact with bodily substances, causing potentially serious adverse reactions.

Levitra can cause a serious reaction if you take any form of nitrates, alpha-blockers, or other medications. This rare side effect is also not limited to Levitra.

Levitra can cause a serious reaction if you take it with other medications that can affect the body, such as blood pressure medications, antifungals (like fluconazole), or other medications for erectile dysfunction.

In rare cases, mania can be triggered by an over-the-counter medication that contains Levitra. supplement or herbal supplement use.

If you are taking any form of nitrates, alpha-blockers, or other medications, your doctor may not be able to monitor your response to Levitra during treatment. For example, this may not be a possibility in many cases.

If you are using Levitra alongside other medications that May Interfere with Treatment, Your Doctor Will Evaluate If You Receive Some Medications

Before taking Levitra, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or medications you are taking, including any prescription drugs, nonprescription medications, or supplements. These may include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, or herbal supplements.

If you are using Levitra with any of the above, notify your doctor when you received the medication.

A former doctor who used to be a sexual health expert said he was surprised by the results of a clinical trial that found that Viagra had no effect on sexual function.

In a new study, a group of men whose sexual dysfunction caused them to stop using erectile dysfunction drugs have reported improved erectile function and reduced their risk of heart attack and stroke.

The results come from a study funded by Pfizer that looked at the effects of Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis on people with erectile dysfunction.

Viagra, the world's top-selling drug, is one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the world. The U. S. has more than two decades of influence over the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, including Merck and Eli Lilly.

In the study, men with erectile dysfunction were randomly assigned to take Viagra, Levitra or Cialis for three months and then asked to rate how they felt after one month on the ability to have and sustain an erection.

Men who took either of the drugs had a significantly greater improvement in their ability to have an erection than those who took Levitra or Cialis. However, those who took Viagra, which was given only as a pill to treat erectile dysfunction, had a significantly lower risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

The study was funded by Pfizer, which is the maker of Viagra. In the United States, Viagra costs about $4,000 a year and Cialis costs about $30,000 a year. Viagra is the company's top selling drug, along with Levitra, Cialis and Levitra Connect.

The findings were presented at the 2023 Society for Sexual Medicine conference in San Francisco, the American Urological Association's annual meeting.

Dr. David Karp, director of urology at the San Francisco Sexual Medicine Center, said the results are "a great starting point for physicians to consider whether they should take Viagra or another ED drug," and he added that patients with the conditions could be helped by taking their medications as they are.

"This is the first study that has shown that men with erectile dysfunction are more likely to get a diagnosis of heart disease," said Dr. Karp, who was not involved in the study.

Viagra, the world's top selling drug, costs about $4,000 a year and Cialis costs about $30,000 a year.

A second study, which was funded by Eli Lilly, found that men with erectile dysfunction were more likely to suffer from chronic kidney disease than those who were not on the drug.

Men who take medications that are used to treat erectile dysfunction should be evaluated carefully for potential drug interactions, including those involving nitrates, drugs that lower blood pressure and blood sugar, and antidepressants.

The study is an observational, randomised, placebo-controlled study.

The results of the study are based on a phase III trial in men with erectile dysfunction.
